How to cook rice

Rice (pasta style)


Notes

1/3 cup / 70g = 1 serving

1/2 cup / 105g = 1 large serving


Ingredients

  • 1 part dry rice
  • 4 parts water

Directions

  • Add water to pot and boil water
  • Add rice
  • Reduce heat to med-low
    • Brown Medium/Long Grain: 30 minutes
    • Brown Basmati: 14 minutes?
  • Turn off heat, rinse, cover and rest for 10 minutes

Rice (stovetop style)


Ingredients

  • 1 part dry rice
  • 2 parts water

Directions

  • Add water and rice to pot
  • Heat to boil uncovered on high (about 3 minutes)
  • Reduce heat to mid-low for brown / Reduce heat to low for all others
  • Cover
  • Cook 40 min for brown / 20 min for all others ( see time adjustments below )
  • Turn off heat, let rest and steam, covered for 5 minutes
Cooking times: 2/3 cups : 12 minutes ( 5 minutes rest and steaming ) 1 cup : 17 minutes Yeilds: 2 cups dry = 2 quarts 1/2 pint 1 3/4 cups dry = 2 quarts? 2 1/2 cups dry = 3 quarts?
